THE MARENCO STORY

Since 1925, the same family

Barbera is in our soul and we have a sweet heart: we are proud producers of Moscato and Brachetto, among the noblest varieties that exist.

Indigenous, curious, nonconformist: we are among the few wineries who produce wine from Caricalasino grapes (white Barbera), and we love Albarossa.

We cultivate the grapes that
express themselves best in our territory.

1925

The foundation

Michele Marenco married Margherita Scovazzi. The two were vineyard neighbors: Michele's family owned the Marchesa vineyard, Margherita's the Scrapona.

1956

THE VISION

In the 1950s, 60s and 70s, Giuseppe Marenco, Michele's son, shaped the Marenco of today.

In a Piedmont that was still seeing people leave the countryside for the cities, Giuseppe understood the value of his territory. He built the Strevi winery in 1956, and began bottling and offering his wines to enthusiasts in Milan and the surrounding areas.

Everything was reinvested in the company; over 30 years, Giuseppe acquired the best vineyards between Strevi and Nizza Monferrato, creating the viticultural heritage that is still the distinctive heart of the company today.

1983

Patrizia Becomes an Oenologist

The Marenco winery evolved to serve customers who were increasingly attentive to quality, moving from processing grapes to producing wine.

In this context, Patrizia decided to move to Alba and study oenology.

She was one of the first women in Piedmont to qualify as an oenologist.

1985

Scrapona & the CRUs

The journey towards winemaking as an expression of the territory continues. The Marenco vineyards are vinified separately, and the best wines are bottled as single parcels. Moscato Scrapona is born from the vineyard of the same name, followed by other single-vineyard Cru wines such as Pineto, Ciresa, Bassina, Marchesa...

1996

EXPORTS

Thanks to the work of Michela and Gian, the Moscato and Brachetto of Strevi cross Italy's borders. Today Marenco wines are poured by the glass in restaurants from New York to Miami, from Strasbourg to Singapore.

2014

Andrea joins the Winery

Andrea Costa, Michela's eldest son, joins the winery: the fourth generation works alongside the family, in the cellar with Patrizia and in bringing Marenco wines to the world.

2015

ORGANIC CERTIFICATION

Commencement of organic conversion for all vineyards — a journey extensively described on the "Sustainability and Organic Farming" page.

2019

Nizza Riserva, Zana cru

The first vintage of our Nizza from the Zana cru in Castel Boglione, a vineyard we acquired specifically to make this wine. Zana is the highest vineyard on our estate, at 420 m above sea level, which ensures freshness and balanced alcohol. The picture is completed by the age of the vines (over 30 years), the sandy, calcareous soil, the slope (over 30%) and the south-facing exposure.

2025

100 years of hospitality

Doretta, along with Chiara, Gian, and the whole family, open the winery every day for friends and customers.

In October 2025, we celebrated our first 100 years in style

Today, the company is run by the family. Patrizia Marenco, one of the first women to graduate in Oenology in Alba, Piedmont, oversees production together with her sisters Michela and Doretta, her brother-in-law Gian, her nephew Andrea, and a team of passionate and competent collaborators.

A company that has remained family-owned for a hundred years, loyal to the same territory and with a contemporary idea of wine.
